A Medieval Town &
A Castle for the Night
We started our day off with breakfast at the incredible Hotel Thonon including my favorite tea, l’Oriental, that we also sell in our Boutique! Look! We even have a supporter wearing our TFK Team Colors! (Hi, Dad!)
After breakfast, we passed the Port of Thonon and started off on our 91 mile route
– the first stage of our route from Thonon-les-Bains to Seyssel.
Along the way we passed through Geneva in Switzerland where we enjoyed a quick picnic lunch before a steep climb through the local vineyards. I am pretty proud of this ride as it’s my longest ride ever and we even finished with a long climb. The climb was worth it with some incredible views on the way down!
Today’s route was full of little villages, lake and mountain views, vineyards, sweet descents, and a few climbs. One of the highlights was passing through Yvoire, a very cute medieval village on the Lac Leman.
When we reached Seyssel, we explored a bit and enjoyed a delicious blueberry tart before finishing our last climb to our Castle B&B!
Later, at our castle near Seyssel, we had a delicious dinner consisting of beef filet, scalloped veal, beef carpaccio, salad with goat cheese, faisselle (my favorite dairy, but hard to describe!), and vacherin for dessert. We only paid 130 euros for 4 people for 4 courses! Insane! Not only that, but we have a castle to sleep in and a much appreciated pool to swim in…. and check out the room our bikes got to sleep in, aren’t they lucky?!
We had an intense 1st day…
stay tuned for tomorrow’s Tour de France climb!
