Bonjour from Mallorca!
After a relaxing week, I have now started an intense week of biking with my good friend Vanessa from Grenoble, where I lived before moving to Colorado Springs. Feel free to follow me on Strava!

I hope you’re ready for lots of bike photos this week, and some food as we’re still looking for the perfect little spots for lunch. We have both decided to challenge ourselves and push our limits. I am riding a non-ebike and we’ve decided to do big climbs, as the island has plenty to offer. We both surprised ourselves on our first day when we accomplished 55 miles with 3700ft of elevation gain while going to the Lighthouse of the Cap of Fermentor. I had never done passes before without electricity… but it wasn’t that bad! We rented quality bikes… it helps. We enjoyed lunch on the marina. I truly appreciate that you can get a delicious fresh squeezed orange juice everywhere you stop! And it is quite common that you are served a little appetizer. In this case, we got a yummy verrine, close to a Vichyssoise.

Today, we decided to ride about the same distance and elevation to get to the Ermita of Betlem and to the town of Betlem, a place that not a lot of tourists go to, but that offers gorgeous views of the Parc Natural Llevant and the bay. We found for lunch a place called La Mar de Vins in Arta, with a little hidden courtyard. Very cozy place where we enjoyed a great calamari wok, full of flavors.

Now for those who are thinking of a bike trip to Mallorca, here are some tips:
– This time of year is incredible, weather wise.
– Renting a quality bike was cheaper than bringing our own.
– Most of the roads are the opposite of Colorado roads, if you know what I mean!
– Be ready for incredible food at very affordable prices.
– Know that at this time of year, many places are still closed as it’s not the official tourist season so check before you go.
– They have bike hotel throughout the island. The one we’re staying at is a gem at an incredibly low price. Hotel Valentin Playa de Muro features modern comfortable bungalows, 2 pools, including a lane one, much appreciated at the end of the day! And for meal, a breakfast buffet and dinner are included in the room price and offer a perfect assortment of food, including local specialties, that changes daily. They also have bike services on site.
– All the cyclists present on this side of the island really create a fun atmosphere. We had never seen that many outside of races!
– If you speak German, you’ll be able to practice everywhere!
More biking adventures coming soon…
